Jamb Game
WASD + Mouse to control.
Theme: What's behind the door?
When I thought about the theme, the old Let's Make a Deal game "What's behind door number 3?" came to mind.
I wanted to figure out how to incorporate that idea of a game show into a game. One of my favorite Twitch streamers plays old game shows, so it felt like a perfect fit to include him as my game show host (with permission!) I obviously also took some inspiration from Smash TV.
I'm proud to say that all assets were created solely by me (except the font, thanks Slime!)
Things I learned:
A lot. Handling state is very important.
I should try to component-ize features more. The code could feed a family of 5 with how much spaghetti there is.
Resources are really good.
How to loosely "compose" a MIDI song.
T I M E R S
I'm not as bad at pixel art as I thought I would be/it's not as hard (at low resolutions) as I thought.
Things I would have done if I had more time (and still might):
More enemy types. This feels like a given, but I was just scraping past with the two I made.
More types of powerups. Stat upgrades are neat, but I wanted to do things like piercing bullets, bouncing bullets, maybe a dash or active ability.
Different guns. Maybe not necessary with the upgrade system, but maybe.
Droppables/pickups.
